Two fine screw Steam Ships
The ‘GNOME’ of Glasgow’
And
The ‘ELF’, of Glasgow.
Dimensions of the ‘ELF’ :- Length 168 feet 5/10 ths inch, breadth 28 feet 3/10 ths inch, depth of hold 14 feet 1/10 ths inch; builders measurement 631 72/94 tons. She is propelled by a pair of direct-acting engines, of sixty horse power collectively. Diameter of cylinders 32 inches, length of stroke 2 feet 3 inches, with tubular boiler. She was built by Messrs. Caird and Co. of Greenock, in 1856, and classed nine years A1 at Lloyd’s; capacity of hold or cargo 700 tons, of 60 cubic feet, capacity in dead weight 520 tons, capacity in bunks for coal 90 tons; draught of water, loaded, 13 feet aft and 11½ feet forward, and her speed averages eight knots per hour, on a consumption of coal of about nine tons daily. Has good accommodation for captain, officers and crew in deck house, and has a small comfortable cabin aft.

She lies in the harbour at Grangemouth.

All Parties having CLAIMS against this Company, or against any of the Screw Steamers the ‘Sylph’, the ‘Elf’, and the ‘Gnome’, all of Glasgow, are requested to lodge the same, duly vouched, with either Messrs. Kerr, Anderson, & Brodie, accountants, 33 Renfield Street, or Messrs. C. R. Baird, Black, & Dill, solicitors, 54 West Nile Street, Glasgow, within three weeks from this date, with certification that those failing to do so will be excluded from a participation in the funds or the Company.
